Lawsuit demands Trump administration reveal Gaza Humanitarian Foundation funding

Palestinian women return from the site of the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), in the central Gaza Strip, on 4 August 2025 (Reuters)

Aug. 20, 2025 - The New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) said on Wednesday that it filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for its failure to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (Foia) request demanding the financial records of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

"The Center for Constitutional Rights is particularly interested in information that could reveal whether the administration's distribution of funds has any link to President Trump's 'Gaza Riviera' plan, which would cleanse the area of Palestinians and redevelop it for investors," the statement said.

US military contractors who staff the GHF have also been seen in videos shooting at aid seekers - something former US special forces soldier Anthony Aguilar confirmed after leaving the organisation.

BBC witnesses West Bank attack by masked Israeli settlers

Aug. 18, 2025 - BBC News has witnessed an attack by dozens of Israeli settlers on Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank.   The settlers in the illegal outpost of Or Nahman attacked local Palestinian farmers, setting fire to vehicles and destroying their property.

The violence comes as the Israeli government plans to sign off the building of thousands of new homes elsewhere in the territory.  That plan, which is illegal under international law, would “bury the idea of a Palestinian state” according to one far-right minister in the Israeli government.

Israeli settlers have been expanding their illegal seizures of Palestinian land since the start of the war in Gaza.   Israel says that it does not support the creation of unauthorised new settlements.  However many Palestinians accuse Israel’s government of complicity in the attacks and land seizures.

A BBC team was in the West Bank near the illegal outpost settlement of Or Nahman when Palestinian communities came under attack.

Israeli military says first stages of assault on Gaza City have begun

Aug 20, 2025 - The Israeli military says it has begun the "preliminary actions" of a planned ground offensive to capture and occupy all of Gaza City and already has a hold on its outskirts.

A military spokesman said troops were already operating in the Zeitoun and Jabalia areas to lay the groundwork for the offensive, which Defence Minister Israel Katz approved on Tuesday and which will be put to the security cabinet later this week.

About 60,000 reservists are being called up for the beginning of September to free up active-duty personnel for the operation.

Israel approves illegal settlement plan that would split occupied West Bank....not even trying to hide the genocide

Aug. 20, 2025  - Israel has given final approval for a controversial settlement project in the occupied West Bank that experts say would damage plans for any future territorially contiguous Palestinian state in the territory.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who announced the plan on August 14, hailed the decision as “historic” and framed the approval as a rebuke to Western countries that announced their plans to recognise a Palestinian state in recent weeks.

“The Palestinian state is being erased from the table not with slogans but with actions,” Smotrich, a settler himself, said on Wednesday.

‘Legitimization Cell’: Israeli propaganda unit tasked with linking Gaza journalists to Hamas

Listen (9:55)

Aug. 14, 2025 - The Israeli military has operated a special unit called the “Legitimization Cell,” tasked with gathering intelligence from Gaza that can bolster Israel’s image in the international media, according to three intelligence sources who spoke to +972 Magazine and Local Call and confirmed the unit’s existence.

Established after October 7, the unit sought information on Hamas’ use of schools and hospitals for military purposes, and on failed rocket launches by armed Palestinian groups that harmed civilians in the enclave. It has also been assigned to identify Gaza-based journalists it could portray as undercover Hamas operatives, in an effort to blunt growing global outrage over Israel’s killing of reporters — the latest of whom was Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, killed in an Israeli airstrike this past week.

Listen (7:24)

Aug. 15, 2025 - Over the 22 months since Israel launched its offensive, Gaza’s water access has been progressively strained. Limits on fuel imports and electricity have hampered the operation of desalination plants while infrastructure bottlenecks and pipeline damage choked delivery to a dribble. Gaza’s aquifers became polluted by sewage and the wreckage of bombed buildings. Wells are mostly inaccessible or destroyed, aid groups and the local utility say.

Meanwhile, the water crisis has helped fuel the rampant spread of disease, on top of Gaza’s rising starvation. UNRWA — the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees — said Thursday that its health centers now see an average 10,300 patients a week with infectious diseases, mostly diarrhea from contaminated water.

Aug. 12, 2025 - At the first US State Department briefing since Israel killed a team of journalists in northern Gaza on Sunday - including Al Jazeera's highest profile correspondent in the strip, Anas al-Sharif - the Trump administration appeared to brush off the attack as a mere casualty of being in a war zone before deferring to Israel for any potential investigation.

While the US has "concern about the loss of any innocent life" (I call BS), spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters on Tuesday, "many of you know of someone who's been killed, who you've worked with because of a war situation".

Israel is in talks to possibly resettle Palestinians from Gaza in South Sudan

Listen (2:03)

Aug. 13, 2025 - TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel is in discussions with South Sudan about the possibility of resettling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to the war-torn East African country, part of a wider effort by Israel to facilitate mass emigration from the territory left in ruins by its 22-month offensive against Hamas.

Six people familiar with the matter confirmed the talks to The Associated Press. It’s unclear how far the talks have advanced, but if implemented, the plans would amount to transferring people from one war-ravaged land at risk of famine to another, and raise human rights concerns.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to realize U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision of relocating much of Gaza’s population through what Netanyahu refers to as “voluntary migration” (i.e. volunteer to leave your homeland or we'll kill you, your family and all your neighbors). Israel has floated similar resettlement proposals with other African nations.
