Could Western leaders be legally complicit in the Gaza genocide?
(28:13)
Aug. 31, 2025 - US and Western support have been vital in Israel’s war.
Weapons and support from the West, led by the United States, have been central to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
The United Kingdom’s and European Union’s relations with Israel remain essentially unchanged despite the war.
Is this complicity? And could there be legal consequences for Western nations and their leaders?

How to prove Israel is not a settler colony even as it pursues 'Greater Israel'

Aug. 31, 2025 - Israel's advocates wage a propaganda war, framing Palestinians as the 'colonisers' while erasing Zionism's colonial roots and cloaking conquest in myths of return and indigeneity.
Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly endorsed the project of "Greater Israel", telling i24 News that he is on a "historic and spiritual mission" of territorial conquest.
This maximalist vision builds on the existing Greater Israel and its settler-colonial control of East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, the West Bank and now, once again, Gaza - where the government hopes it will soon re-establish itself.

Israel is pushing ahead with its plan to take full control of the whole Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City, with the goal of destroying Hamas after nearly 23 months of war, while facing a global outcry over starvation in the besieged enclave.

Another rig is in: Palestinian Authority urges US to reinstate Abbas’s visa before UNGA
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's spokesman says US visa revocations 'will only increase tension and escalation' [File: Zain Jaafar/AFP]
Aug. 30, 2025- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s office has urged the United States to reverse a decision to revoke the Palestinian leader’s visa, just weeks before he was set to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The Palestinian presidency expressed “astonishment” at Washington’s decision on Friday to rescind the visas for Abbas and 80 other Palestinian officials before next month’s high-level meetings at UN headquarters.
Matt Duss, executive vice president at the Center for International Policy, a US-based think tank, accused the Trump administration is “clearly violating diplomatic protocol” in its decision to revoke the visas. As a host state, the US is meant to grant visas to UN member-state representatives and officials to visit the international body’s headquarters in New York City. “What’s going on here is clearly ideologically driven,” Duss told Al Jazeera. “There are people inside the Trump administration who are working closely with the right-wing Israeli government and their goal is to simply remove the Palestinian liberation movement from the international agenda,” he said.

Gaza genocide: 'There is nothing to occupy. The city itself no longer exists'
A Palestinian boy uses a wheelchair to transport plastic bottles in Gaza City, on 24 August 2025 (Omar al-Qattaa/AFP)
Aug. 29, 2025 - Gaza is not being “occupied”- it is being erased. The tanks are not entering to control, but to destroy. What happened in Rafah and Beit Hanoun is now being repeated in central Gaza: in recent days, the neighbourhoods of Tuffah, Sabra and Zeitoun have become remnants and ruins.
When people speak of the “occupation of Gaza City”, it is a term meant to deceive the world. For nearly two years, the Israeli military has been on Gaza’s territory, yet there is no form of military governance in place.
Instead, there is a policy of total destruction, aiming to erase what remains of the city and its inhabitants. In practice, one of the world’s oldest cities is being wiped off the map.

The "Israeli" occupation army is promoting lies and false allegations
An aerial view of the Al-Mawasi area where displaced Palestinians live in tents, January 2025
Aug. 28, 2025 - The "Israeli" occupation army is promoting lies and false allegations and publishing misleading maps to forcibly displace the residents of Gaza and the north and create a new humanitarian crisis*
What the occupation army is promoting about the existence of "vast empty spaces", such as "Al-Mawasi" and "Al-Wusta camps" in the southern Gaza Strip is a false claim that contradicts the facts on the ground. It represents an attempt to mislead international public opinion and cover up the large-scale crime of "forced displacement."

US Forces Can Be Liable for Assisting Israeli War Crimes

Aug. 26, 2025 - US military personnel could face legal liability for assisting Israeli forces who commit war crimes in Gaza, Human Rights Watch said today.
Direct participation by US forces in military operations in Gaza since October 2023, including by providing intelligence for Israeli strikes and conducting extensive coordination and planning, has made the United States a party to the conflict between Israel and Palestinian armed groups. As a warring party, US forces could be jointly responsible for participating in laws-of-war violations by Israeli forces, and US personnel implicated could be held individually responsible for war crimes.

Israel is committing genocide, legal and Holocaust scholars agree
(19:46)
Aug. 27, 2025 - Israel’s military offensive on Gaza is nearing the two-year mark. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed, and nearly the entire population has been forcibly displaced multiple times. Rising starvation deaths amid an Israeli blockade and aid sites described as "killing sites" accompany increasing warning bells from international humanitarian agencies describing this as genocide.
Yet, many countries seem reluctant to use the word. Last year, UK Foreign Minister David Lammy suggested that not enough people had been killed for it to warrant the term. Others have said it’s a matter for legal courts to determine.
So, is what’s happening in Gaza a genocide? And who gets to decide that? In this episode of Expert Witness, we asked 10 leading scholars. Here’s what they said.

In fact, it was two strikes that hit the hospital in Khan Younis on Monday 10 minutes apart about 10am (07:00 GMT).
Essentially, it’s two strikes on the same target. The first strike is intended to kill an individual or individuals, the second to kill any rescue workers who come to help.
