Global Sumud Flotilla arrives in Tunisia before sailing to Gaza in bid to break Israeli blockade

Sept. 8,2025 - The Global Sumud Flotilla, an international coalition of activists, has reached its second port of call in Tunis. The fleet, which set sail from Barcelona, Spain, is carrying humanitarian supplies for Palestinians in Gaza, who have been under an 18-year Israeli blockade by land, air and sea. The flotilla includes hundreds of activists from around the world, including Nelson Mandela's grandson Mandla Mandela and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. This marks the largest-ever attempt to breach the Gaza blockade, with organisers stating their mission is one of solidarity and non-violence amidst what they term Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza.
